Literacy – Reading Conference about CAFE strategies

During Daily 5 we always have an Interviewer and Reporter who conduct interviews and take photos of the learning that they see happening. Next term we will be introducing some more jobs for the children to do through the week as Miss Carey trials the ‘Digital Learning Farm’.

Jaime was the Daily 5 Interviewer, she asked to interview Miss Carey. You can watch the video of Miss Carey doing a Reading Conference with Ebony. We were checking in to see how Ebony is going with her CAFE goals.

Week 10 Numeracy – Location and Directions

This week we extended our understanding of birds eye view to draw a bird’s eye view plan of our bedrooms. One of the things that were most challenging to draw was bedside drawers and cupboards. The students have then had the opportunity to make a diorama of their bedroom in a box. There have been some fantastic bedrooms made.

Week 10 Discoveries

We have continued to open up our classrooms and have Discoveries at the same time this week. Miss Carey’s and Mrs Coopers class had Discoveries together on Monday and chose a partner from their classroom and then worked with a partner from the other classroom creating either a form of transport or shelter with things out of the POD there were some great creations. We then worked together later in the day to write a description about our creations.

This week the entire school was involved in making a music video about how awesome our school is. Our class got to run out of our classroom and join the dance party whilst singing a song written by 800 Decibels for this special occasion.

Special Event – SRC Footy Colours Day

This Friday was Footy Colours day where the SRC were raising money for Cancer Awareness. Lots of people dressed up in their footy colours and joined in with the footy activities at lunch time.

In the classroom we made a graph to find out what teams everyone barracks for. Collingwood was most popular and Geelong was the second favourite team.

Week 9 Discoveries

As the weather has improved the Grade 1/2s have taken the opportunity to open up our classrooms and let the students do Discoveries with all the other Grade 1/2 classes. The students have been able to work in any other 1/2 classroom, with the POD or on the Play Scape.

Week 9 Literacy – Descriptions and Compound Sentences

This week in Discoveries we have continued to write descriptions but we have been focussing on learning to write compound sentences. A compound sentence is joined by conjunctions. some conjunctions that we use are; and, because, but, also, as well as, next, then, after that.

This week in Numeracy we have been learning about Location and Directions.
Students in 1/2 AC have been involved in learning about coordinate maps and birds eye view. They were required to draw a treasure map that had:
– x marks the spot
– a treasure chest
– a boat
– a key
They had to include at least one of the following:
– volcano
– quicksand
– swamp and
– palm tree

Week 8 Numeracy – 3D shapes

This week in Numeracy the students have been learning about 3D shapes and revising their knowledge of 2D shapes. You can see the posters that we made to remember the shapes features and compare the 2D and 3D shapes.

A fun activity that we did was decorate the wrapping paper for our Father’s Day present. The students were required to use shapes, lines and make patterns. You can see some examples of their fantastic wrapping paper below.

I thought that it might be fun for the students in our class to have a space where they can share their jokes and riddles with each other. Please make sure that they are appropriate. Any inappropriate jokes will not be approved to go onto the blog.

Week 7 Discoveries

With such beautiful weather this week the teachers decided to take the kids outside for Discoveries. The students were allowed to play on the Play Scape and with the Pod. We have continued learning about Fractions this week. We have extended their knowledge of fractions as being part of a whole to recognise and identify fractions that are larger than a whole.
